Kevin Harvick sports Hendrick Motorsports gear for the first time at North Wilkesboro
Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Ahead of practice and qualifying tonight at North Wilkesboro Speedway, Kevin Harvick is wearing his Hendrick gear for the first time. Who would have thought we would see Harvick in a Hendrick car during NASCAR All-Star Weekend?

The All-Star Race is back at North Wilkesboro for a second straight year. It was also announced that it will return for 2025. However, this year’s edition is special. Kyle Larson is off in Indianapolis for Fast Friday, getting set up for Indy 500 qualifying this weekend.

In his place today at North Wilkesboro is Kevin Harvick. He is going to try and get the No. 5 Chevy Camaro dialed in while Larson gets his Chevy Dallara IndyCar dialed in.

RFK Racing shared a photo of Brad Keselowski and Harvick on a track walk and it is a bizarre thing to see. Harvick in a HendrickCars.com polo and fit with the hat of the week as well.

Harvick posted his own photo as well.

“Starting our day off with track walk at [North Wilkesboro]. Looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Camaro soon,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Meanwhile, Kyle Larson is in Indianapolis averaging more than 232 MPH on a four-lap run and reaching a top speed of 241 for brief moments. Through the first two hours of the Fast Friday run today, Larson is in the top-10 and trying to get his way into the top-5.

Kevin Harvick will get back in a Cup Series car for the first time since the Phoenix championship race last November. How great is this? During his career, Harvick suited up for Richard Childress, Stewart-Haas, and now, Hendrick.

Even if it is just practice and qualifying, it’s great. Harvick gets to do a favor for Larson and Rick Hendrick and participate a bit in the weekend. Of course, he will be calling the races from the booth.

Harvick will get to remind himself how these cars feel from behind the wheel.

Now, don’t expect a comeback or anything. Kevin Harvick is just doing a favor for Hendrick and Kyle Larson. It’s got to be a cool experience, too. He’s never been in the Hendrick camp before, but I bet he wishes he could have snuck in there a few times during his peak years, figure out what they were doing with that 48 team.

Let’s not forget that Harvick has plans to race grassroots events. He has a super late model and late model stock team in the CARS Tour. While he has had a rotating cast of young drivers in those cars, he indicated he would like to get involved as well.

So, no, we are not going to see Harvick return to the Cup Series. He likely won’t ever return, even for a one-off race. That doesn’t mean he will give up racing completely. Who knows, Dale Earnhardt Jr. might convince him to jump in a car for the Xfinity Series at Martinsville or Bristol or something.

The point is, Kevin Harvick will drive again tonight. In a Hendrick car. That’s cool! For fans new and old, if you have enjoyed NASCAR in the last two decades, this is fun to see.
